I ate a fig!

Hi Everyone!

It may not seem exciting to you but last night I tried a fig. Gayle brought some to the church water study last night. It was dried (apparently - it was soft and very sticky) and although I liked it, I could only eat one. It was so sweet! I was told it makes lovely jam.

Had a productive weekend.

After work on Friday, I detoured onto 17 Ave ("The Red Mile" for hockey fans) and bought some bee pollen. It looks like Rainbow's food pellets but they're golden coloured. It is apparently very healthy for you (30% protein), gives you energy, boosts your immune system etc. I don't particularily like the taste of it although I don't like the taste of honey either. I've been tired so often lately and hopefully this will help. I have noticed that after I take it, I'm not super hungry and need sugar right away. I then stopped at the Paws Boutique which is a dress-up store for dogs and cats. I ended up passing on a t-shirt for Mike but I did get him a toy with catnip in it. While there, two dogs were preparing for a fashion show later that night and one of them got its bangs cut.

I stayed in my pjs all Saturday and cross-stitched.

On Sunday, I made a proper supper. I made roast beef (M&Ms is lovely - it's already seasoned for you!), mashed potatoes and corn. I also did laundry, swept the floor, organized the kitchen and tidied the hallway. I also tried to make pralines. I've made them before (in Ontario) but I ended up burning the candy and setting off the fire alarm. I think I either heated the mixture at too high of temperature (too quickly) or my pot wasn't thick enough. I was quite disappointed.

There was a skiff of snow on the sidewalk this morning and it was -14 C when I left the apartment.

I have a busy week ahead of me. Tuesday is the Townships meeting, Wednesday is Bethel class, Thursday is my apartment inspection, I drop off Mike at the vet, and have choir practise, and Friday is when I pick Mike up. He's having his teeth cleaned. I know this sounds pretty stupid but his teeth are in bad shape. It's probably from him eating that horrible, cheap Safeway catfood for so many years. Since house cats don't have a regular diet of meat (ie mice) and bones to scrub their teeth, placque builds up. In Mike's case, the placque has gotten so bad that by next year, his gums would become infected. I'm hoping that by getting this done now, he won't need it again for another few years. Because of the nature of the procedure, the vet needs to knock Mike out. I could drop him off Friday morning but I'd end up being late for work and I would still need to fast him. The clinic is open late on Thursday and they won't charge me for boarding. I'm still a bit nervous about the procedure and I'll likely sleep horribly on Thursday night.

Whiskers learned a new trick this weekend. I let her out on Friday. When I was getting ready for bed, I did a quick search for her. I found her on top of my bed! She learned how to hop up but I don't think she could get down. I set her down and throughout the night, she kept hopping up. I'd wake up and set her back down (in case she needed to go to her cage to go to the bathroom). By Saturday morning, she had figured out how to jump down. It was rather nice to wake up to two furry family members hopping/stepping on me. Saturday night consisted of her jumping up and down off the bed and tearing down the hallway. Mike took a few swats at her (but she can hold her own) this weekend but I think it's good for the both of them. They both get exercise (Whiskers from her hallway racetrack and Mike from jumping out of the way) and they get used to each other.

I also included two articles in my blog. The first one is about the beer flowing from a faucet in Norway and the second is from the editor of the Danish newspaper who published the cartoons. I thought they would be of interest.

Have a great day!
