New Government

Hi Everyone!

Can't say I'm surprised with the results - at least they're in a minority!

My landlord is letting me paint the apartment! It's been driving me nuts that this apartment was painted so badly. The paint wasn't put on properly and you can see the pre-existing colour under it. My bathroom was once a horrid turquoise colour and cottoncandy pink was the kitchen. They also painted over the lightswitch covers and used the same paint for the walls as they did the ceilings! It will be nice to be able to get the walls looking nice (cover the peeling, holes from nails etc.) and making it look a bit more polished. I am limited to neutral colours but I think I can work with this. It'd be nice to have some bold colours but I can use my curtains, rugs etc to deal with this. I was looking at the Benjamin Moore website for some ideas so I have a basic idea of what I want to do. I can't have a lot of contrast between the different rooms (brightness limitation, lighting, layout etc.) so I'm looking at beige (I know - but it will go with the carpet in the livingroom and flow down the hallway) for the livingroom/hallway. I found a nice "fernwood green" that would look nice in the kitchen. Still a bit unsure about the bathroom but I'm thinking of a yellow/gold tone. I think in the bedroom I'll go for a darker version of the livingroom or maybe stay with the same colour and put a darker colour on one wall. It doesn't get much light and it's rather small. Trim colour is a bit difficult. I have a tiny trim (about 1") above the floor. My flooring is carpet in the livingroom and that black & white checkerboard everywhere else. I can't go with a straight white because the tiles have yellowed in places. I may have to go to a taupe or brown. I also have heaters baseboard heaters running along the walls everywhere. I'm going to check out paint samples this weekend. Overall, I'm looking form warm tones-no blues or greys. It'll be an on-going project - probably one room/month, starting with the bathroom.

Still have a cough and Mike slept in the livingroom last night. He was with me when I woke up so I'm guessing he waited for my medicine to kick in before he settled in to sleep. Gave Gilbert a bath in the sink - seemed less stressful than the bathtub. Whiskers tried to eat my Spiderplant last night - that poor plant - between Whiskers and Mike, I don't know how it's still alive!

Have a great day!
