Jerry sent me an e-mail back. He understood, told me he didn't want Mike to leave and had a couple more suggestions to try. So, I'm happy again since I get to keep both males.
And yes, Jerry likes cats - it's just the allergy thing.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through such a conflicting situation and super glad that Jerry is so understanding and that you two have some options to persue. If I understand right, it's the "pet dander" that causes the reaction, and when we were buying stuff for our new family members we saw both cat food and shampoos aimed at reducing hair loss (and, presumably, helping with healthier skin under the hair), so that might help. Maybe daily brushing would help?
I'm really excited for you two moving in together, too!!
