High School Math

For those who wonder why we studied ratios in school...

I had to do it today for work. I knew how much money someone made on a weekly basis but the vp was totaled biweekly. I had to find the ratio numbers and figure out how much vp was earned each week.

eg
week 1 earned 1643
week 2 earned 2201
vp over 2 weeks 79.36

1643:3844 = x:79.36
x=33.92 (vp earned in week 1)
y=45.44 (vp earned in week 2)

...and I would like to thank Mr. Brown for trying his best to teach us math (and for playing guitar when we needed it)

This was a common question I had for him, "Why do we need to learn this? What will we use it for in the future?"

So, ratios is something I use quite often. And I used triganomitry (sin, co-sin, tangent) when doing manual calculations for marine navigation. And I've used algebra when building stuff. For anyone still in school, pay attention to your math teacher - it will help you in the long run.
