Winter tires

Hello everyone,

If you've looked at the news recently, you'll know the prairies are in the midst of a deep freeze. It drop down to -26 on Friday, -30 and colder on Sat & Sun and then got up to -23 on Monday. When you throw in the wind chill, it was in the -40s.

The office shut down early on Friday and I got home easily before the storm came. Headed up to Jerry's for the weekend and cursed the stupid roads the entire way. The pathway was fine but since the city doesn't clear residential roads (taxpayers weren't willing to pay extra for it), conditions were a mess and a lot of people didn't have their sidewalks shovelled.

But Jerry is super sweet. He gave me part of my Christmas present early - a winter tire. It's a road tire but has spikes. We put it on my front over the weekend and it made a huge difference on Monday. I then stopped at the bike shop on the way home and picked up a second one. He wasn't sure it would fit and since they're expensive, he only picked up 2 - and I insisted he use one too. This will be his first year riding them. My traction and control was great this morning (and I look rather grimy. I couldn't get the black from between my fingers). So, I'll end up with 2 sets of tires - winter spikes and regular road. I got a second cog so that way I don't have to fool around with anything - just remove the wheels and switch.

I'm pretty well ready for Christmas. Got everything shipped off to home and I just need to pick up a couple things for Jerry. Have a bit of Christmas treats still to bake but that won't take long. Whiskers likes to hide under the tree. She shoves the presents around until she has lots of room. Mike tends to ignore her there.

Have a great (and warm) day!
